After completing undergraduate studies at Indiana University School of Nursing, Kathy received a Master and Doctor of Pediatric Nursing degrees from Rush University. She works at Northpoint Pediatrics as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in addition to the BABY SQUAD™. She is an active member of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners. She is currently serving on the NAPNAP Clinical Expert Panel in the areas of Safety/Injury Prevention and Education. Kathy has been called upon by local and national media for expert information regarding child safety issues. She also holds a certification as a Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor from the American Heart Association.

In her spare time, Kathy enjoys running, volunteering at her children’s schools, and being a swim mom. She is married to Jeff Knurek and mom to Sydney and Cameron.

Our Story

Since beginning her nursing career, child safety and preventative care has been a passion for Kathy Kent-Knurek. With 9 years experience as an ER nurse and another 14 years as a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, she has seen the tragedy of childhood accidents and has heard countless times “I just turned my head for a split second” as parents describe how their child was injured. The truth is that many child injuries are preventable. She believes that educating parents and caregivers about injury prevention is just as important as teaching them about nutrition and sleep. So in 2006, she created the BABY SQUAD™. The goal was to educate parents and caregivers in the care and safety of children by providing expert advice and professional services.
